About Our School

Scoil Cholmcille is a medium sized primary school and is situated in the village of Newtowncunningham, Co Donegal. The village itself lies almost midway between Derry City and Letterkenny.

The religious denomination of the Scoil Cholmcille is Catholic with strong emphasis on Christian values and attitudes.  The Bishop of Raphoe, Alan McGuckian, is the Patron. However, children of all faiths, and none, are very welcome to attend our school

Scoil Cholmcille depends on the grants and teacher resources provided by the Department of Education and Science and it operates within the regulations laid down by the Department.  The school follows the curricular programmes prescribed by the Department of Education and Science, which may be amended from time to time, in accordance with Sections 9 and 30 of the Education Act 1998.

Classes, Pupils Support

Scoil Cholmcille is a co-educational school, providing education for boys and girls, with classes ranging from junior infants to sixth class. We currently have over 220 pupils enrolled in the school.

There are nine class teachers in Scoil Cholmcille. We also have five special education teachers who provide additional support for pupils on a one-to-one basis, in small group settings and through in-class support or team-teaching.

Great Outdoor Facilities

Scoil Cholmcille is situated on an expansive site, with two large grass pitches, an astro pitch, two playparks and a fully tarmacked yard. Shelters for children and infant parents alongside a bicycle and scooter shelter are further assets of the school

School Activities & Extra-Curricular

WE OFFER A WIDE RANGE OF SCHOOL BASED AND EXTRA-CURRICULAR ACTIVITIES FOR THE CHILDREN. THESE INCLUDE:

Gaelic football • Soccer • Basketball • Athletics • Hip hop • Yoga • Mindfulness and meditation • Swimming • Chess • Choir • Quizzes • Green School Committee • Student Council • Aistear • Debating • Tin whistle 2nd – 4th class, a wide selection of instruments 5th – 6th classes.
